Kitchen Room
Hey there guys,
First off, a very long overdue happy New Years! Hope your year’s gotten off on the right foot. We want you guys to meet our next reno project, Kris and I half jokingly said this ones going to be named the house of many windows & switches because literally handyman delight – this home has switches on every wall and ceiling you turn and legit drive-thru style windows between the kitchen, family room and bedrooms. So naturally, I had to hashtag it so you guys could follow us along as we transform this sad, sad bungalow into our next beauty!
We really lucked out on this one, it was a foreclosure in a highly sought after neighborhood that went into a multiple bid situation and we luckily received a call right around New Years that it was ours! After jumping through some Fannie Mae loop holes we’re finally getting into it this weekend, which means come one come all with sledges, chipping guns and one (or four) extra large dumpster.
With a smaller footprint than Project Spring we plan on hitting the ground running on this one with a timeline of June to have it substantially complete and plan to even live in it for a little.
The game plan is pretty simple, cosmetic updates on the main floor with some removing of walls to enlarge the one existing bathroom and relocating the stairs between the kitchen and family room to create a more functional flow through the house. The kitchen is much smaller than our last kitchen which means I have to step up my creative storage game, a challenge I’m all for. There’s an awkward family room addition off the back of the house with a Barney Rubble style fireplace and way to many windows & doors. This room will get a total overhaul, new fireplace centered on the rear wall, flanked with french doors for natural light and no more drive-thru windows..
The attic currently is unfinished, but is a glorious 40′-0″+ by 25′-0″+ space which we are going to transform into a master suite. Our plan is to dormer out to gain some more usable living space and headroom, Kris will appreciate this being the 6′-4″ guy that he is.
