Alexandria Family Room & Kitchen

This client requested a more formal, dressy family room because the house has an open floor plan and the family room can be seen immediately as you walk through the front door. However, as much as they wanted a pretty space, they also wanted it to be super comfortable. It is this area where the couple, their two college-aged boys, and their dog hang out when everyone is home.

In order to get a more formal look, we used a very traditional style sofa with English arms and a waterfall skirt. The sofa, however, is extra deep so that you can throw the pillows aside and take a good long nap. The textures and colors are warm and inviting, and the fabric we selected for the upholstery is durable enough that you don’t need to worry about really “living” in this room. Even the dog is welcome up on the sofa!

The ceiling height in this space is eleven feet high, so we used drapery panels to soften the large wall of windows, and added motorized roman shades to allow for easy adjustment of the shades. These draperies are perfect for blocking out the sun’s glare while watching TV, or for keeping the room warm on a cold DC night.
