Hacienda Style Texas Ranch
The East Coast owners of a sprawling hunting ranch in Southern Texas, stumped for the perfect encapsulation of their vision for this Lone Star vacation property, coined the hybrid term, Mexas, in a moment of ingenious wordplay. The 27,000 square foot private hunting ranch located in Southern Texas is made up of 10 Guest Houses, 14 Bedrooms, and 19 Bathrooms.

The 20,000-acre tract, populated with elk, deer, javelina and quail is less than 30 miles from the Mexican border. The architectural materials used on site were all native to the region: limestone quarried in San Antonio; Texas cypress and mesquite that take the form of support posts and ceiling beams; and adobe mud brick that keeps the ranch compound’s dwellings-21 in all-naturally insulated.

The connection between the architecture, design, and its inhabitants is also cozy: Shaded porches, landscaped courtyards and inviting fire pits-concepts borrowed from traditional Mexican haciendas-are natural spots for après-hunt gatherings on the ranch. The use of traditional Mexican interior elements such as hand painted talavera tiles used in the majority of the bathrooms as well as the commercial kitchen, octagonal Saltillo floor tiles, the authentic Mexican antique furnishings throughout the property, all the way down to the limestone based paint used on the interior walls, blended together to stay with-in true hacienda style.
