In this house located in Corona Del Mar, California, we wanted to express our client’s world traveller lifestyle. In addition to traveling, this client has varied interests in sports, aviation, boating, photography and art. We set out to design a house filled with sleek, unfettered modern design that complemented this client’s collections from around the world. The kitchen cabinetry was updated with a new coat of paint in a blue gray. We added quartz countertops with a waterfall edge on the peninsula. Our specifications included a new glass backsplash, cabinet hardware, new appliances, vintage lucite barstools and cork float pendants from London. For the bathrooms we chose noir tiles that created a sleek and uniform aesthetic. In the guest bath we were instrumental in the design of a custom concrete sink and counter surfaces. In the master bath we repeated the waterfall edge but with a different slab. Also in this bath, we specified a sustainable veneer to use in our custom designed cabinetry that doubled the storage space while maintaining a sleek, unobtrusive look. We gutted the home office and replaced old cabinetry with custom built-in cabinets finished with another sustainable veneer, modern accessories and local art – this made for a creative and serene work space. We chose paint colors for this house in rich charcoals, grays and blues and added spices of orange. The furnishings are modern and comfortable – the house is an interesting trove of conversation pieces.
