The State of South Dakota and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology selected FourFront Design, Inc., (as Thurston Design Group, LLP) to provide professional design services as the prime consultant for a Student Center renovation and new adjoining 300-bed residence hall.
The project primary objectives included:
– Improved student access to services and lounge areas at the Surbeck Student Center
– Upgrade of mechanical and electrical systems in the remodeled areas of the Surbeck Student Center
– A larger and updated student lounge and study area with a coffee shop that serves both the campus and the adjacent residence hall
– Renovation of much of the Surbeck Student Center basement to provide activity areas, offices, meeting rooms, and work rooms for student organizations
– ADA accessibility updates including an elevator, main entrance, restrooms and other student services
FourFront Design, Inc., assisted the State of South Dakota and the School of Mines and Technology by providing an intensive programming and preliminary design phase for consensus building. In addition, FourFront provided design development, construction documentation, bidding assistance, and construction administration.
