A large commercial grey-shell in a shopping center was the space that the Interior Designer and Landscape designer were faced with when they began the process of conceptualizing a design center for their respective companies. The space is intended to be multi-functional as an office for design staff, an area for product seminars and private events, a conceptual space to walk clients through, a retail showroom and a conference/presentation area. The previously dirt floor was filled in with a variety of surface materials, and outdoor kitchens came to life in multiple vignettes using a blend of textures and materials. Rammed earth and gabion (rock filled) walls were built to help divide spaces as well as add interest and unique texture. Each individual vignette is equip with outdoor patio furnishings in order to complete the concept of true outdoor living. Distinctive water features, lighting, art and sculptures are highlighted representing work of local craftsman.
