Upstairs, Virginia Beach-based designer Sharon Southall paired with Elizabeth City painter Lynn Nash. Southall saw a soft portrait of a woman in a hat and went straight for a “mother of the bride” theme.

“The painting reminded me of a garden wedding,” says Southall.

The room is bright in that wedding day sort of way and possesses a number of creative touches that set the eyes in motion, including Nash’s painting.

But perhaps the star of the room is a chair sitting before a draped vanity. The chair is ingeniously upholstered with a flowing cocktail dress.
