This kitchen started with pickled oak cabinets. While the cabinet boxes were in great shape, they were not so great to look at. We added alder veneers (skins) to the boxes, ordered all new doors with a completely different profile and chose a dark, rich stain color. The kitchen layout stayed exactly the same but it all got a face-lift that will last for years to come.
