For this young family, a difficult question: how to honor the rich history of their deeply Southern roots (many generations in NC, with the accompanying traditions and memories and antiques) while embracing a more casual lifestyle appropriate for them? And how to end up with something that didn’t feel like their grandparents were about to move in? The clients, a couple of avid entertainers with loads of knowledge in the fine arts and a carefully curated modern art collection between them, wanted something special. With two teenage boys and a lifestyle of impromptu entertaining for neighbor friends, this would be a careful plan of furniture and textures that could serve a practical lifestyle, but with the traditional flair that was important to them. Balancing an eclectic mix of materials and styles, our result was a fresh, livable family home steeped in history and tradition with an elegant, subtle edge.
