The Master Bedroom
Merely a neglected reading-sleeping room with never much thought given to its great design potential or “escape-ability,” that is, its ability to really offer a get-away while reading and relaxing at the end of long days for this single, hard-working professional, head-of-household mother and her beloved Sheba Inu.
Having assisted this terrific woman 5 years ago, she pretty much left it up to me to put something together. “I trust you,” she said. “Just be sure I can keep the painting my mother did, my dresser, mirror, bench, night table, floor lamp and family pictures. Oh, and I like my headboard. Can we keep that too? What about the blue-green color; what will we do with that?!?”
I needed my magic wand for this project… marry the old with new: Heirloom pieces and personal favorites fused with the more modern spirit and colors present in the rest of the home. Yes, that’s it! The owner comes home and gets to star in her own modern fairytale, so-to-speak…

The Master Bathroom
Other than the obvious need for an update, the only requests were to provide more space on the countertop, retain the vanity cabinet, primary plumbing fixtures, including the bathtub (“I might consider using it someday”) and “Please, no wallpaper!” We began by tossing this wish aside 🙂

The Media Room
With her daughter just graduated from college and temporarily living at home part time, the homeowner wished to convert a bedroom, used previously as the computer and “hang-out” room, to a comfortable, cozy adult TV-Movie Room where they could really escape and unwind.

The “Jack & Jill” Bathroom
The owner requested we provide a transitional update with interest, retaining existing cabinetry and at a minimal investment. A comfortable transition between a neutral gender media room and glam bedroom was needed.

The Daughter’s Bedroom
This makeover was to be a modern reflection of the pretty young woman who both “grew-up” and has returned here (for now). A recent Fashion Merchandising graduate, she “ordered” a “big all-white headboard, with dark wood frame” and wanted a room “with purple,” a place for her favorite things, including the scarf she hand-printed while in college and above all, comfort.
