Condo, Philadelphia, PA
DESIGN GOAL:
The homeowner required a pet-friendly condo that was unlike the contemporary interiors most commonly associated with her urban condominium complex. She wanted warmth and elegance and to celebrate her love of all things sparkly.
DESIGN CHALLENGE:
The client loved almost everything. So, pinning down a design direction took lots of creativity and observation.
DESIGN CONCEPT:
The result was to incorporate an eclectic mix of design styles and repeat color and design elements to bring harmony and unity to all of the spaces.
The client initially wanted periwinkle, a color not in fashion today, and lime green, a color that is most fashionable today with a yellow tint as citrine. But the palette evolved to lilac, lavender, citrine and loads of metallic finishes.
I recommended an architectural element, a regency pattern, that was created with applied molding to the face of all interior doors in the condo; the focal wall in the living room; the television cabinet in the living room; and the piece de resistance, the Murphy bed in the second bedroom/home office. I also deliberately repeated sphere and curvy shapes for much-needed harmony.
I work closely with the client to cleverly balance all the unexpected elements – the regency with the retro, the highly polished with the quirky, the sweet with the dramatic.
