Kitchens and Baths
When a kitchen is used by someone confined to a wheelchair, the principles of universal design become crucial. Special features of the kitchen include space under the sink and cooktop for the wheelchair, an induction cooktop for safety, pull out shelves in the pantry cabinet, deep drawer storage, a pull-out shelf under the microwave, and a refrigerator that maximizes reachable shelves. Also, the slim, pull-out exhaust fan/light works with a touch of a button, and some upper cabinets may be pulled down for better access.
