The style my client sought in her split-level home was minimalist and calm, flowing smoothly from one room to another. The house, by design, was disjointed, so I had to find a means to make rooms flow from one to another.

When my client repeatedly selected beige, we had to play with textures, varying different hues within the palette and bring some pops of color and sparkle within each space in order for the space to not be boring beige.

Wanting to stay as budget-friendly as possible, we refinished and re-upholstered whenever possible, and spent money very carefully. Since lighting was challenging after sundown, we needed to find a means of adding light without “breaking the bank” on lighting hardware and electrician’s fees.

My client’s 3 cats sometimes vomited on the couch or floor during her absence, and occasionally pulled threads and shredded them, so there could therefore be no rugs to cover the florin and define spaces. Shortly after I began work on this home, my client added a second dog: a rescue pup that’s a ball of fire, and now weighs over 100 pounds!

The final outcome is a sleek, minimalist home that flows from one room to the next.
