Mid-century Modern Redo
This client was looking for help in adding warmth, personality and the finishing touches to several rooms in her home. She is a busy working mom who wanted her home to feel pulled together and complete, but didn’t have the time to shop and do it all herself, and wasn’t confident in choosing things that work together (a very common dilemma). She loves color and is drawn to mid-century modern style and modern artwork. The key was to give her that look, while still choosing pieces that blended well with her house itself, which isn’t ultra contemporary.
For the main living area and kitchen, we worked with the existing artwork and lighting, and sourced the rest of the main elements online, including the sofa, chairs, dining set, area rug, accent furniture and window treatments. In the days leading up to the install I shopped around town for the perfect accessories to add personality while still keeping it clean and simple.
Next we moved on to the basement family room/TV room. She had a sofa and entertainment center, but was at a loss for what to do with the rest of this big empty room. Anything we picked had to be comfortable and low-maintenance since at times she has a basement full of pre-teen boys, but she also didn’t want to sacrifice her style and personality. We sourced everything except the little finishing touches online, shopping at West Elm, All Modern, and World Market. The end look is simple, clean and scaled back, but still full of personality.
