Established in 2001, Shakoor Interiors is a full-service, boutique interior design firm, focused on exclusive residences with projects ranging from renovation to new construction throughout Chicagoland. Considered a tastemaker in her field, Design Principal, Erin Shakoor collaborates with a team of builders, artisans and craftspeople to realize her client’s vision. With a background in fine art and textile design, Erin’s interior design aesthetic is continuously informed by her travels abroad, historic architecture, vintage furnishings, tribal & decorative arts. Working closely with each client, the goal is to create inspired interiors that incorporate a dynamic use of color, proportion and texture. The result is a space that appears effortless, as if developed over time. Erin's passion to support the preservation of Chicago’s historic neighborhoods, led her to pursue and receive her Certificate in Historic Preservation through Northwestern University’s, Continuing Studies Program. After being featured in Design With Antiques and the inaugural Dream Home [formally known as, Dream Room], her firm was selected by the Merchandise Mart Design Center as one of an exclusive group of firms to represent the Designer On Call program. Additionally, Erin has been honored for the past 5 years by Pink Eggshell, naming her one of the nation’s Top 20 African American Interior Designers. As a former art teacher, Erin is a strong supporter of her alma mater - The Kansas City Art Institute, After School Matters and The Art Institute of Chicago. She has been a guest speaker for the Common Ground Foundation and Gary Comer College Prep and served on the board of the Primo Center for Women & Children. In her spare time, Erin loves entertaining and is well-known in her social circles as a “mixologist” - creating unexpected and yummy cocktails. But quiet as it’s kept, she secretly longs to be a DJ. With musical taste ranging from The Rolling Stones and Steely Dan to Michael Jackson and Farley Jackmaster Funk.
