I thought everybody did. As a kid growing up in the country, I can remember wanting a sidewalk and neighbors. Who wanted to learn to ride a bike on a gravel driveway? And who wanted to be so isolated from your friends? But that's the way it was. So I made up for what I didn't have by using my imagination. My brothers and I would build roads in the sandbox for all the army trucks to navigate. Snow drifts would get tunneled into, and we would carve out snow "furniture" for the room we had just created. The autumn leaves provided the construction material necessary for my makeshift floor plan. In other words, I took what I found and made the most of it.
