The colorful story of a family business. Bold colors and inspired style runs in our family. It all started many years ago in a small Connecticut town where Margo Moore, Marcy van der Kieft’s mother opened her women’s clothing boutique. Who knew that, back then, the flair for vibrantly stylish design would follow us to the heart of beautiful Camden, Maine? Marcy van der Kieft, President Born in New York City, Marcy Moore van der Kieft graduated from college with a degree in fabric merchandising. Her schooling launched her into a position as the Associate Fashion Editor for Mademoiselle Magazine in New York City while simultaneously assisting in the management of a fine women’s clothing shop in Darien, CT. The store was named Margo Moore, after her mother and closest friend. In 1971 Marcy married moved to Camden, Maine where she opened a second Margo Moore Shop also specializing in women’s clothing while adding home accessorizing lines. Recognizing her creativity, talent and style, Marcy’s clients began to look to her for help in interior design. The requests for design help kept pouring in so in the early 1980’s, Margo Moore Interiors, a full-service decorating and home accessorizing studio was established. Today Margo Moore Interiors is a working studio for all types of styles. The first floor devotes 3,500 sq. ft. to retail space with high-end unique home accessories. The second floor is a working Studio filled with hundreds of ideas for wall coverings, fabrics for window treatments, pillows and the upholstery solutions. Megan van der Kieft, Designer, Allied A.S.I.D. Megan’s retail and design career started immediately following her college degree with a national retail chain of florist in Florida, then with SunglassHut/Watch Stations and Home Depot. Searching for a less corporate and more personal design interaction she based herself out of Boston and worked with clients along the East Coast before moving permanently back to Maine to assist in the day-to-day operations of her Mothers business. Megan travels nationally searching for new vendors, unique antique accessories, and eclectic inspirations to bring back to the store with the intention of adapting her finds to the quaint homes of MidCoast Maine and beyond. Her personal travels take her abroad where she is influenced by old worlds architecture and eclectic use of colors to inspire her local clients interiors. Megan’s design passions embrace the trends of today while adapting them to traditional values of design – making timeless interiors with a fresh approach. Scale, color, and unique “finds” are the quintessential interior accent to completing any decor.
