DIANA KENNEDY Allied Member, ASID Master of Arts, Interior Design New England School of Art & Design An award-winning designer and an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Designers, Diana Kennedy helps clients find their personal style and match it with the needs of their home. Her projects have included both residential and commercial spaces, and range from single-room makeovers to complete kitchen and bathroom renovations to sweeping themes for the entire house. Diana’s style draws on both her well-cultivated past and a fondness for pop culture. Having studied in Tuscany and lived in England, traces of traditional European sensibilities mark her aesthetic and blend with a bit of whimsical nuance and modern functionality. Her work embodies the transitional genre, marrying conventional ideals with contemporary design and playing with a variety of colors, patterns, and style. Many of her projects feature locally sourced materials, thrift-store finds, and repurposed pieces from the homeowners. Diana handles all facets of interior design, including lighting, painting, furniture, fabrics, flooring, window treatments, cabinetry, and light interior architecture. “One of the most enjoyable aspects of this profession is working with a client, working together as a team,” she says. “Most people know what they want, they just have trouble articulating it. So my job is to understand their thoughts and preferences, then see how we can express that in a way that complements their tastes and lifestyle, and fits their budget.” Diana helps clients visualize how the room will look with computer-generated 3-D images and hand-rendered drawings. “It’s a combination of discovering new beautiful things and putting together a really pretty puzzle,” she says. Background Diana’s creative streak started early on. Her first venture into interior design happened at age five, when she drew a mural in crayon on her bedroom wall and her parents let her keep it. A pop-culture devotee, Diana has always been heavily involved in theatre and the arts through acting, designing, and curating. She studied English at High Point University, obtained an advanced degree in Publishing at Oxford Brookes University. She credits HGTV and two big condo renovations she completed by herself for igniting her passion for interior design, subsequently attending the masters program for interior design at the New England School of Art & Design in Boston, MA. Raised in bucolic Hunterdon County, New Jersey, Diana has lived and worked in NYC, Italy, and England. She now calls the Boston-area home and resides in a 1940s bungalow in Wakefield with her husband, Ryan, and their miniature poodle, J.J. Prior to launching her own design business, Diana worked for Daher Interior Design and Ethan Allen.
