Barry's approach to interior design has developed and evolved over the 40 years he has worked from Nashville and Los Angeles. He established B. Wilker & Company in 2001 as a full-service interior design firm with a retail showroom in the heart of Nashville's Green Hills. Barry has become a favorite among Nashville area residents seeking superior quality interior design services, whether contemporary, traditional or an eclectic blend of styles. A Nashville native, Barry's career started on the ground floor as head of display for a local furniture store in 1976. His responsibilities rapidly expanded to include award-winning advertising, the purchase and pricing of merchandise and working directly with clients and designers. By 1980, Barry knew potential for his professional growth lay outside Nashville's city limits. In Los Angeles, he settled on a position as an interior designer with one of the area's largest and most prestigious European furniture showrooms. Barry's clientele would ultimately include celebrities, producers and families of Fortune 500 executives. Opportunities were limitless. The vast availability of diverse interior design resources in the area allowed his talents to flourish. Projects included the remodel of the Deco Hollywood Reporter Building, sprawling contemporary estates overlooking the Pacific, classic Hollywood Hills residences, high rise condominiums and Pasadena bungalows. After 13 successful years in Los Angeles, Barry chose to return to his hometown where his eclectic style has continued to evolve, blending unexpected elements of old and new furnishings and accessories with rich combinations of fabrics and wallcoverings in an array of color palettes, providing a unique mixture of contemporary and traditional. Opening his studio and showroom in 2001 attracted other top interior design talent and offered merchandise from top manufacturers alongside unique art and accessories from both international and domestic artists and craftspeople. In mid-2007 he purchased new retail space and moved to an expanded location on Bedford Avenue where he remained until March 1, 2015. With the sale of his Bedford property, Barry eliminated the retail showroom, allowing him to focus completely on design. He continues to offer his extraordinary interior design talents and services from new offices in West Nashville.
