She always knew that she should be a designer. Alexandre Fleuren spent her childhood constantly reinventing spaces, drawing and reworking every interior she encountered. She trained with floral designers, furniture refinishers, painters, and seamstresses- all before leaving for college. But somehow Interior Design did not encompass all of her passions for space, so she graduated The University of Georgia with a Housing Degree. Alexandre’s education exposed her to housing codes, historic preservation, special needs design, financial planning for large projects, relating residential design to cultural and geographic settings, and so much more. Her unusual background, and later marriage to a now retired Air Force officer, afforded her great opportunities to expand her horizons. In the last 23 years, she has lived on both coasts and worked in almost every aspect of the field. A certified master faux finisher for years, Alexandre’s work was showcased in the Parade of Homes and historic properties across the Lowcountry. As a design consultant for the largest showroom in Seattle, she used every major accessories and furniture line available. From Schumacher and Henredon to Maitland Smith and Vanguard, Alexandre quickly learned which lines carry through on quality and excellent service. She worked alongside amazing European designers, gleaning from their incredible knowledge and fresh approach to defining space. After spending 3 years in Las Vegas, studying and traveling the United States, Alexandre took advantage of the time away from Charleston to implement business systems which improve client communication, increase work efficiency, and expand sourcing options. I continually hone our process, so our clients enjoy the best design experience in the Lowcountry. – A. Fleuren Returning to the East Coast, Alexandre worked on numerous historic properties, designed new urban spaces in Atlanta, and then began designing custom spec homes in South Carolina. Her work on more than 30 of these homes gave me access to dozens of contractors and suppliers. Alexandre still works with many of the talented craftsmen she’s known for years. They share a passion for excellence and treat each home with respect and gratitude. In 2006 Alexandre Fleuren Interiors (AFI) opened in Mt. Pleasant with the goal of bringing to every client exquisitely designed spaces specialized just for them. It is my job to dream for you what you cannot envision, and then make it your reality. – A.
