SCS DESIGN is a full service interior design firm founded by Sophia Shibles, ASID. Understanding client goals along with careful consideration of the architecture and natural surroundings are crucial to our design process. We work with builders, artisans, furniture makers and other specialists to craft warm, modern interiors using classical proportions and principles. For Sophia, a successful design finds that mysterious balance among contrasting elements. Neutrals are interrupted with pops of color. Organic fibers mix with sleek man made materials. Modern furniture harmonizes with antiques. Dramatic art and bare painted walls are equally important in her spaces. Her discerning eye and search for the essentials creates refreshing, inviting spaces that are at once modern and timeless. Her signature style of “layered minimalism” can be found in historic and modern homes as well as country clubs, offices and retail stores from Maine to Florida. The end result? Lively, livable and inviting interiors. Sophia studied interior design at Rhode Island School of Design after earning degrees in other disciplines. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tufts University where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and holds a graduate degree from New York University Graduate School of Journalism. Yet with an antiques dealer for a grandmother, her education in the decorative arts began in her childhood. She often tagged along scouring thrift stores and flea markets for treasures. The thrill of the find, her love of the arts, eye for craftsmanship, respect for history and passion for modern design remain with her today. Sophia lives in Providence Rhode Island with her family and dog Hermione. When she’s not designing, she’s usually running.
