Danielle’s passion for interior design started at a young age. Born in upstate New York and later studying design at FIT created a mixture of casual charm and metropolitan classicism which continues to influence her design philosophy. “I knew I wanted to be in the interior design field, creating beautiful spaces for people to enjoy and share with their family. I grew up with a creative mother who inspired me to be an interior designer and encouraged me to study design in Manhattan at the Fashion Institute of Technology.” After studying interior design at FIT, Danielle worked in Manhattan, Westchester County, New Jersey, Connecticut and the Hudson Valley where she gained valuable experience in space planning, color theory, furniture design, kitchen and bath design, lighting, and visual merchandising. In 2015, Danielle set out on her own and started Mill Road Design with the goal of making interior design more attainable. Often seen as intimidating, Danielle believes good design should be accessible to any budget. It is less about starting from scratch than starting with an item of inspiration that may already exist in the home, such as a collection of perfume bottles or a table that has been passed down from generation to generation. The combination of bringing together old and new, traditional and modern, high end and low end is what gives a room its soul and individuality. “Clients often have a good start to a room with some key pieces, but it’s the layering and filling in of new furniture, artwork, drapery, and finer details that make a room feel complete.” The result is a space that is fresh, unique, and a true reflection of the client. This is very rewarding for both the homeowner and Danielle. Its a partnership with the client, and a successful design is one that the client truly feels at home in. “I feel that a space should reflect the people who use it day to day, not the designer creating it. A space should be comfortable, welcoming, safe and familiar. I like to help guide clients through the design process and make it a fun experience for them.” As a designer, Danielle wears many hats, from project manager to clients’ point of contact. Responsibilities include initial meetings, design development, drafting, materials selections and ordering, vendor communication, mill work shop drawings, job site visits, coordinating deliveries and installations, delegating job responsibilities as well as meeting with engineers and architects to discuss project scopes. Danielle’s work has been featured in the Garden Club of Darien, various publications, Houzz, and design blogs.
