Melanie believes the fundamental of good design is collaboration with the client, so the outcome is a beautiful space that not only functions well but also reflects the unique style and aesthetic of the individuals who live there. Whether designing a Master bedroom, a Nursery or the interior of an entire residence, Melanie lends her eye for classic and clean design to create a space that feels both livable and beautiful. Melanie is skilled at seeing each client’s unique style and offering a refined and tasteful take on that aesthetic. In her work she’ll often highlight a meaningful piece purchased abroad, mixing Flea market finds with good quality “investment” pieces to create a unique and thoughtful space. Her personal inspiration comes from years of travel and observing spaces around the world coupled with her love of the classic yet contemporary feeling of California style. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Melanie moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2005 to continue her passion for design. Shortly thereafter she began working for the high end design firm, Wick Design, where she would spend the next five years leading projects in San Francisco, New York, Wyoming and Lake Tahoe. In addition to the residential projects, as lead designer she worked closely with the Principal on the San Francisco Decorator Showcase and Elle Decor’s Dining by Design. Melanie’s interest in design started as a child when she took interest in rearranging the furniture in her bedroom and styling the accessories and decor in her parents home. There was never a question in her mind about what to do when she grew up. Melanie studied Interior Design at the British Columbia Institute of Technology where she earned a Certificate in Design. She continues her design studies at the UC Berkeley. In 2010 she founded Melanie Stewart Designs in order to work independently with clients. Having found her creative outlet in her career, she no longer moves furniture around in her free time. Instead, she enjoys all the Bay Area has to offer with her husband, their daughter, and the family dog.
