BENJAMIN JOHNSTON Benjamin Johnston Design is the latest incarnation of Ben Johnston’s national and international design practice and lifestyle brand. He has spent a lifetime pursuing artistic expression as a designer, artist, teacher and tastemaker. Throughout his life, Ben has pursued various endeavors focused on bringing beauty to the world around him and enabling others to do the same. Ben earned his Bachelors of Architecture from Texas A&M University and his Masters of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. During this time, Ben also studied design philosophy and classical painting in Italy and traveled extensively throughout Europe, Northern Africa, and Japan. He was honored to be the first American student selected to complete a design residency with the prestigious firm Cesar Pelli & Associates - Tokyo. Upon returning to Houston, he launched his first architecture, furniture and graphic design business in 2004. From 2006-2013, Ben also served as a Professor of Interior Design at Houston Community College, building its reputation as one of the best-regarded design programs in the city. In 2011, Ben began his first exclusively interior-design focused practice, allowing him to continue his passion of collaborating with clients and craftspeople to bring great design to life. Ben continues to share his knowledge and passion today with an even wider audience, appearing as a design advice contributor in international shelter magazines, on various syndicated television programs, and as a frequent speaker at design events and conferences. Ben’s work has appeared in many magazines including the pages of Luxe, Modern Luxury Interiors, Traditional Home, PaperCity, the Houston Chronicle, and in the catalogs and coffee table book for Stark Carpets entitled, Designing with Carpets: A Fine Foundation. Ben has been recognized with design awards from PaperCity and Modern Luxury Interiors, as well as being named as a “Rising Star of Design” (2014) by the Decorative Center Houston, and a “Leader in Design” by the Houston Design Center. Beyond his professional work, Ben was also named as one of Houston’s “Most Beautiful” by HTexas magazine for his generosity and community service. Most recently, Ben’s firm was named ‘Best Transitional Design Firm’ by Modern Luxury Interiors and the 2017 ‘’Star of Design’’ for Interiors by the Decorative Center Houston. Today, Ben Johnston and his team work to bring tremendous knowledge and experience to designing extraordinary spaces - from conception to construction, from styling to decoration. The team is capable of handling projects of all scales and styles across North America and abroad, as their process relies on the key tenets of collaboration, communication, and education. They believe that all good design begins with function, but great design requires quality and exceptional taste that can only come from experience and a finely honed instinct.
